Application procedure

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree FIPDes recruits up to 25 well-motivated students from all over the world.

The application process is extremely selective and only the best candidates will be admitted to the programme.

Application to the EMJMD-FIPDes programme is made with the online application tool. Please make sure you select the "FIPDes" choice on the drop-down menu when you log in for the first time (after the verification of your email address).

The following documents must be uploaded on the online application tool:

Completed application form (using the provided online tool)
Scan of Passport (with photo, date of expiry and personal details / ID can be accepted for European students only)
Curriculum Vitae (if possible in European Format, see the Europass Website)
Letter of Motivation: There is no minimum nor maximum length for the motivation letter. However usually it's 1 to 2 pages. The letter should be addressed to the FIPDes Consortium.
Copy of BSc-degree or equivalent (Scan of the official degree or temporary certificates required)
Translation of Diploma (if applicable, official translation in English or one of the languages of the Partner Universities: French, Italian, Swedish)
Transcripts of academic records for each year of the BSc degree or equivalent (official signed and stamped transcripts with explanation of the grading system, and, if applicable, official translation in English or one of the languages of the Partner Universities: French, Italian, Swedish)
Recommendation letter: Two reference letters (signed and stamped, if possible use the FIPDes form). The letters will be uploaded directly by the referents (University teacher, employer, internship supervisor…) on the online application tool once you have filled in their details and sent the request.
Proof of English Proficiency: Proof of English level ("B2 level" according to CEFR, advanced) demonstrated in one of the following ways:
- TOEFL ITP at minimum level 575
- Internet-based TOEFL at minimum level 90
- IELTS (Academic) at minimum level 6.5
- Cambridge Certificates: Cambridge English First (FCE) , Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) and Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE)
- Students with English as their mother tongue (the copy of passport is needed to prove this)
- Students who have completed (or who are currently completing) a higher education degree with English as a medium of instruction (a certificate from the university is required to prove this)
- Stay of more than a year in an English-speaking country (a certificate from employer or other as applicable, or a copy of the passport page showing visa to enter and leave the English-speaking country, is needed to prove this)
- Exemptions can exceptionally be made for outstanding students with a lower English proficiency level
Proof of your Place of Residence: a residence certificate in accordance with your municipality registration rules or a certificate from your place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question, in English (or officially translated into English) and not older than 12 months.

Please note that incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration. Read carefully the list of documents and make sure you attached everything to your application, including translations.
NO DOCUMENT may be sent by post or email at that stage.

Your applications must be validated (last thumbnail of the online application tool) to be considered. You can start an application folder and come back later to fill it and add documents.

Important information regarding the FIPDes online application

Application to an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

Application to the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is made through the online application tool during the regular application to the FIPDes Programme. There are no Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the 2025-2027 and the 2026-2028 intakes.

A student can benefit only once from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
In the case that the applicant is selected for more than one EMJMD, he/she must decide which one he/she wants to follow.
Please note that the personal data you provide when applying will be sent to the EACEA (EU agency in charge of Erasmus Mundus) and may be used by other bodies involved in the management of Erasmus Mundus (i.e. European Commission, Erasmus Mundus National Structures, EU Delegations, Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association).

All candidates are informed in April (at the latest) about the results of the selection process. Please check your spam. All students will be informed of the results. There is no need to email FIPDes to ask for results before mid April.

Important information regarding the FIPDes online application

Students cannot be directly admitted to the FIPDes M2 (i.e., 2^nd year of FIPDes Master programme). They must first successfully complete the FIPDes M1 (i.e., 1^st year of FIPDes Master programme). Students can only apply to the FIPDes M1.

International mobility to at least 2 out of the 4 FIPDes European High Education Institutions is compulsory.

"The EMJMD study period must take place in at least two of the Programme Countries represented in the Cosortium (i.e. at least two mobility periods for all students, different from the country of residence of the student)."

Eligibility criteria

The files are checked by FIPDes Secretary. Incomplete files, files sent after the deadline are eliminated.
All non-eligible candidates are informed immediately, provided with the reasons of their ineligibility, and have the possibility to appeal if they think an error has been made or an unfair bias against their application occured.

Pre-selection requirements

Only the students that meet the following formal admission requirements can be pre-selected:

Background: BSc degree or equivalent degree of at least 180 ECTS or equivalent in food science and technology, biotechnology, process engineering, biochemistry, nutrition or food related fields with a number of prerequisites (e.g. chemistry, biotechnology, process technology/engineering, biochemistry, mathematics, statistics) representing at least three years of study from a foreign institute of higher education. Candidates should be interested in a truly international academic experience and aiming for an international career.

English language proficiency level ("B2 level" according to CEFR, advanced) demonstrated in one of the following ways:

Besides, the FIPDes admission team pre-selects only the best students among those who meet the admission requirements, by assessing the whole application of each student.

Selection criteria

Pre-selected students will be then assessed by FIPDes Consortium based on the following qualitative selection criteria:

List of subjects taken during the BSc level with grades obtained
Educational background, potential and the grade of qualification obtained
Excellence criteria : experience in laboratory work and/or cooking; additional training/ courses/ workshops (which are not a part of a regular study programme); Participation in conferences and/or publishing of papers in peer reviewed scientific journals; international and work experience.
Signed explanation of your own composition stating why you would like to attend the FIPDes Master programme and how this programme will help you in your work and career
Geographical balance: The Consortium will take into account the origin of the applicants in order to assure a proper geographical balance within each cohort.

The top candidates may be interviewed by FIPDes Consortium during the selection step. This will be a short interview (around 30 minutes), face-to-face (in person, by a video-conference) about the motivation and the choice of the second year study track.
Please note that ONLY the top candidates will be interviewed, so you have to wait to be contacted by FIPDes for interview. The interview is a mandatory step to be selected for the programme. However, being interviewed does NOT mean that you will be selected.

When will I know if I am selected ?

All candidates are informed in April (at the latest) about the results of the selection process. Please check your spam. All students will be informed of the results. There is no need to email FIPDes to ask for results before mid April.
