Q: I have a question that is not answered in this FAQ. What can I do?
A: You can contact the FIPDes project managers by email. See the "Contact" page for more details.
Q: I have sent you an email but I do not have an answer yet. What can I do?
A: We answer all emails as soon as possible. If you do not have an answer yet, it means we are still looking for the appropriate information.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND THE SAME EMAIL TWO OR THREE TIMES. Answering all requests for information is time-consuming, all the more so because we answer each request carefully and with as many details as possible. When you send us several time the same email, not only is it not necessary but it also takes time to identify the email and check for the previous identical requests and make sure we don’t answer twice for the same request. It slowers the answering process for everyone.
Q: How do I apply? What is the deadline?
A: The deadline for application is 15th of January. All candidates must apply using the online application tool (see Application page); no document will be accepted by email or post.
Q: I don’t speak French. Can I apply to FIPDes anyway? Are the courses taught in French?
A: The Master is designed for English speakers. Most of the courses are in English, all exams and thesis defense are in English. For the first semester in France, a few optionnal courses are taught in French. Whenever possible, support documents in English are provided. We advise you to study some French before coming, to get the best of your stay in France. We also provide French courses during the first semester (free for FIPDes students).
Q: I don’t have a scientific background (I have studied Design, Economics, Business Management…) / my scientific background is not in Food studies. Can I apply anyway?
A: When assessing applications, we will review your background to assess your scientific knowledge and make sure you will be able to follow the FIPDes courses. FIPDes students are selected among candidates with a BSc in Food science and technology, biotechnology, process engineering, biochemistry or related fields with a number of prerequisites (chemistry, biotechnology, process technology/engineering, biochemistry, mathematics, statistics). The selection is very competitive and we only take the very best students. This scientific background is an important criteria. We welcome candidates with various scientific backgrounds, to make the selected cohort as diverse and enriching for one another as possible.
Q: I have a TOIEC test / a test from my university / a test from a private language school / a TOEFL ITP: can I use it for my application?
A: No. We need to make sure you have a very good level in English. To do so, we need to know the criteria and grades of your test. This is why we need a recognized test such as TOEFL or IELTS (see the Application page for more details about proving your English level).
Q:I am taking the TOEFL test : which institution code should I use to have my results forwarded directly to the FIPDes Executive Secretary in AgroParisTech ?
A: AgroParisTech is not affiliated to the Educational Testing Service (ETS) which administers the TOEFL test. When applying to FIPDes, please upload your personal results sheet on our online application tool.
Q: I had my diploma more than 2 years ago, but the application says certificates older than 2-year-old will not be accepted. What does it mean?
A: Diploma and certificate are two different things. By diploma, we mean "official diploma from the university". Some universities deliver the diploma several months/years after the degree has been completed, because editing a diploma takes time.
By certificate, we mean "temporary document from your university saying that you have graduated". Most universities deliver such a document so that the student can prove he/she has graduated even if the official diploma has not been edited yet.
We accept all diplomas, even if you graduated more than two years ago. But certificates are temporary. If you graduated more than two years ago, you should have your official diploma and not a temporary certificate. This is why in the case that you graduated more than two years ago, we require the diploma and we don’t accept a certificate.
Q: I’m currently following the last year of my BSc degree. I will graduate in June. Can I apply to FIPDes?
A: Yes. Please enclose to your application the transcripts for the first two years of your BSc (or three years if your BSc is in four years) and a document from your university stating that you are currently following the last year of your BSc and the expected date of graduation.
In the case that you are selected, you must complete the BSc before the start of the programme (end of August). This means that if you fail to complete your BSc at the expected date of graduation, your selection will be cancelled.
Q: I would like to contact current FIPDes students. Is it possible?
A: You can go on the FIPDes Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/FIPDe…) to meet current students. In case you don’t have access to Facebook, contact FIPDes (see Contact page).
Q: Where can I find the form for the reference letters?
A: You can download the form after creating your user account to apply online (see "Application" page). When getting in your private application space, click on the last thumbnail: "Submission" and you will find the form below: number 7: Two Reference letters.
Q: I disagree with the selection result, what can I do ?
A: FIPDes has an appeal procedure in place for candidates who disagree with their selection result. There are two possibilities for non-selection:
your application was fairly assessed but your application was not ranked high enough for being granted a scholarship
your application was not fairly assessed
The appeal procedure cannot be implemented in the first case: an appeal is not a second chance, this is not acceptable to doubt the assessment of the experts. They are perfectly able to understand the value of your background, previous studies and motivation. However, the appeal procedure is possible for the second case: it means that an error or an unfair bias has happened. In this case, please provide details as to why you thinks an error happened. To use the appeal procedure, please contact the FIPDes Secretary.
